Find the Right Program for Your Child

We don’t match children to programs. We build programs around children. The first step is always understanding exactly what’s getting in the way and why.

Most of our programs are offered in both English and French.

Summer Program

What are your child’s summer plans? Whether you are seeking extra help for your child, want to reinforce a core class, or want to prevent a ‘summer learning slide’ in preparation for the next school year, all of our specialized programs are available in the summer.

Without the demands of homework, tests, and assignments, summer is the perfect opportunity for your child to improve their:

Reading & Fluency Programs

Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program® [LiPS®] (English reading)

What it is

A structured, multisensory reading and spelling program for students with dyslexia or significant reading difficulty.

How it works

Students learn to identify sounds by feeling how their mouth produces them, connecting the physical sensation of each sound to its written symbol. This gives the brain a new route to reading that bypasses the pathway that wasn’t working.

Best for

Children and adults with dyslexia, weak phonological awareness, or persistent decoding and spelling difficulties- any age

Strategic Learning Clinic is NOT affiliated with, certified, endorsed, licensed, monitored or sponsored by Lindamood-Bell, Nanci Bell, Phyllis Lindamood or Patricia Lindamood. Enseignement multisensoriel simultané® [EMS®] (French reading)

What it is

A French-language structured reading and spelling program based on the Orton-Gillingham method- the only program of its kind widely available in Montreal.

How it works

Uses visual, auditory, tactile and kinaesthetic pathways simultaneously to build French decoding, spelling and reading comprehension from the ground up

Best for

English-speaking children in French schools; students who have failed to achieve French literacy through standard instruction; any student falling behind in French reading or writing

Why it matters

This is SLC’s most defensible competitive differentiator. Almost no Montreal provider offers structured French remediation. This page does not yet exist and needs to be built as a standalone program page- see SEO analysis note.

Neuralign® [formerly ReadLS] (English and French reading fluency)

What it is

A web-based reading intervention that uses neuroplasticity to build the cognitive connections reading requires

How it works

Engages auditory processing, visual processing, phonemic awareness, eye movement control, and working memory simultaneously through structured gameplay, building new neural pathways in the brain

Best for

Students with dyslexia, reading plateau, poor reading fluency, ADHD, ASD, or weak working memory- ages 6 through adult

Evidence

ESSA Level 1 & Level 2 evidence. Students read an average of 50% more words in 10 weeks (Carleton University / LXD Research, 2022–23). This is the strongest single evidence claim SLC has — it must appear prominently on this page.

Comprehension & Writing

Visualizing and Verbalizing Program for Cognitive Development, Comprehension & Thinking (V/V)®: Many readers can read words and have a developed vocabulary, but still struggle to comprehend sentences or paragraphs. V/V® teaches students who struggle with reading comprehension and language processing to build pictures in their minds as they listen to or read text, with the ultimate goal of being able to visualize the main idea or get the whole picture. This is called concept imagery.

Writing Remediation

What it is

One-on-one instruction in written expression, from paragraph construction through essay and research writing

How it works

Students work with experienced writing specialists on idea generation, organisation, sentence structure, revision, mechanics, and spelling. Sessions are structured but flexible to the student’s needs

Best for

Students with dysgraphia, weak written expression, difficulty organizing thoughts on paper, or essay-writing anxiety. High school and CEGEP students with upcoming demands

Math (in English and French)

With JUMP Math, students develop foundational skills by solving simple problems before moving to more complex problem solving. Through guidance, meaningful instruction, and practice, students develop confidence and competence in the understanding of mathematics.
TouchMath is a multisensory program suitable for students of all ages and learning styles. This method makes math concepts more accessible for students who struggle to understand grade-level content.

Attention, Focus & Executive Function

Interactive Metronome® [IM®]

What it is

A neuromotor timing program that trains the brain’s internal clock- improving attention, working memory, processing speed, executive function, planning, and coordination

How it works

Students wear hand and foot sensors and respond to an auditory beat, receiving real-time millisecond feedback. This repetitive, precise timing exercise synchronizes the neural networks involved in focus, planning, and coordination.

Best for

ADHD; executive function challenges; low working memory and/or processing speed; students whose reading or learning progress is slower than expected due to attention difficulties; auditory processing disorder; sensory processing challenges

Evidence

Statistically significant improvements on 53 of 58 measures in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of children with ADHD (Shaffer et al., American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 2001). IM group outperformed control on 21 of 26 neuropsychological measures in a TBI study (DVBIC, p=.0001).

Executive Function & Study Skills Coaching

What it is

Direct, skill-based coaching targeting the executive functions that make academic life challenging: planning, organization, time management, task initiation, working memory, and self-regulation.

How it works

In one-on-one sessions, a specialist who understands the neuroscience behind these challenges works directly with your child to build systems that actually fit how their brain works: visual schedules, prioritization tools, study strategies, and more. These aren’t borrowed from a worksheet. They are built with your child, for your child, until the habits are genuinely theirs to keep.

Because a child who learns to manage their own time, plan their own work, and start tasks without being told isn’t just more organized. They feel different about who they are.

One-on-one sessions where the student builds their own systems such as visual schedules, prioritisation tools, and study strategies, and guided by a specialist who understands the neuroscience behind why these skills are hard to develop.

Best for

ADHD (all presentations); any student whose primary barrier is executive function rather than content knowledge; high school and CEGEP students facing organization and deadline crises

Note

This is NOT therapy and NOT tutoring. It is practical skill-building.

Language & Auditory Processing

Fast ForWord® [FF®]

What it is

An intensive, computer-based auditory processing and language program built on 30+ years of neuroscience research.

How it works

Uses acoustically modified speech stimuli to systematically build auditory processing, working memory, receptive language and phonics- the program adapts to the student’s responses in real time.

Best for

Students with auditory processing disorder; language processing difficulties; history of chronic ear infections in early childhood; slow language acquisition; phonics difficulty rooted in auditory processing rather than phonological awareness.

Note

Still best at 90 min/day × 4-5 days/week
